Mother, daughter walking along South Carolina beach get rare sight of octopus

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WCIV) — A mother and daughter walking along the water's edge in South Carolina came across a rare sight!

The pair spotted a brightly colored common Atlantic octopus resting in shallow waters of Myrtle Beach. Heather Leon called it "an incredible experience."

A video posted by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources showed the octopus gracefully swimming away shortly after the clip starts.

walking on the pier one night just chatting with the fishermen. One of them had caught (oh dear!) a baby octopus and was trying to gently disentangle it from his line. He'd get one or two arms free but the little guy would cling on with the others all the harder. Finally he just cut the line, saying, "They're smart. He'll figure out how to get loose. I just hope he's not hurt too much." And he dropped the little creature back in the water. He said that wasn't the first time he'd caught one but the fist time he'd caught one that close to shore.
