Bring joy to local senior citizens by writing a letter

The Shops of Carriage Crossing in Collierville is asking for letters for local senior citizens.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Many senior citizens are lonely during this time due to quarantine restrictions. The Shops of Carriage Crossing in Collierville is partnering with Home Instead Senior Care to deliver positive-hope filled messages to the elderly.

They are asking for hand-written letters or pictures to send to these Memphis-area seniors. The letters will be delivered weekly and safely to those local facilities. The program starts Friday at 11:00 a.m.

Participants can mail their letters to:

4674 Merchants Park Circle, Suite 43
Collierville, TN 38017

If you have purchased extra stamps in support of the post office, this would be a nice use of a few.😊👍

this age of the Internet. Sometimes a personalized letter goes a long way. But, in all fairness, during these times of the CV, I've been writing via email, that way, nothing physical crosses any paths and picks up the wrong thing while in the mail system.

An email, you know, is safe and most of the ones I write to, are my elderly family members, and I don't want them to get sick from the mail possibly from my handwritten letters (and they know this too).

Can't be too safe, and being safer than need be, doesn't sit with me, even though the chances of transmission are low...thank goodness these people safety handling the ltrs for these seniors, this is/that is so nice and considerate. I'll think I will write another letter to my uncle again tonight.

I just talked to a friend of mine in somewhat rural Illinois (Red Bud IL), and he only saw 1 mask and 1 pair of gloves being used (his of all people) while he was in the store shopping for groceries. The area had 0 or 1 CV case, now has 65 or 69 CV cases! The county metro area of STLMO City has quite a few cases too (over 1300 or so). Red Bud, IL is only 60 miles or so from STLMO, so we do have CV cases (several thousand cases, out of 2.8 million people).

I'd still be careful folks even though the odds are in their favor (unprotected persons). Cases are slowly coming down (or flattening out) in STLMO City, where we had shut down about 4 or so weeks ago, but in outstate MO (shut down began two weeks ago outstate), peak CV infections will unfortunately start breaking out about now (assuming a two week development state for CV).

And the part about risk from snail mail, however slight. I avoid emptying my mailbox until Sunday, so it has all sat in the box for >24 hours. Not sure that helps. lol

but then I disinfect what I need to keep with wipes & put the rest outside in trash & yes scrub hands yet again.

There is also a therapeutic benefits to writing by hand. Another reason to be disturbed with schools no longer teaching cursive. Helps with stream of consciousness-type thought process. 👍
