Park officials at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park are offering a $5,000 reward for information relating to a dead black bear found on Saturday draped on the Foothills Parkway sign with the message “From Here to the Lake Black Lives Don’t Matter” also hanging on it.

Tourists found the black bear pelt with the skull inside on Saturday, hanging over an entrance sign on Highway 321 in Tennessee.

“We encourage anyone with information to reach out to us as we continue to investigate possible motives for this incident,” said Chief Ranger Lisa Hendy. “We take vandalism incidents seriously in the park, and this particular incident is particularly egregious. It is, for this reason, we are offering a reward for information.”

Former park ranger Warren Bielenger witnessed the situation on Saturday morning on his way to do a migratory bird count. He said the bear was “freshly killed”.

“The skull was still in it, and there was still fluid dripping off the backside of the skin,” Bielenger recalled.

This makes me so goddamn fucking furious for so many reasons: the hate speech, the horrible cruelty, the fact that I adore bears, and that this sign is within a few miles of my future home.

6. We have to constantly monitor our property

and we meet bear hunters on our land with a shotgun and try to block them with a truck and threaten to call the sheriff if they don't leave. Usually they say they're trying to find a "lost" dog---yeah, right.

We also get scavengers for ginseng and wishy mushrooms.

I hope they gut the bear hunter from crotch to eyeballs with a dull deer antler.

thinking, "I wonder what I should do today. Watch some TV, work in the garden, go fishing, go out to lunch, work on the car? Or maybe, I could go out in the woods and hunt me a black bear, then come home and make a crude racist sign. Then load the dead bear in the truck and drive to a national park, where I will hang the sign next to the bear carcass, cuz I ain't got nuttin' better to do with my time."

That all would have taken a lot of time, preparation, and perverse motivation. Sounds like the actions of a dark and dangerous person.

7. Disturbing, to say the least

I'm sure Park Rangers are really, really pissed. They love the parks and the creatures that are in their care. And whoever these ugly yahoos are, I'm sure that they're stupid enough to have bragged about this to a while bunch of people. There will be a mad rush to collect the $5,000.
