"Let all who are hungry come and eat" is one of the phrases recited during a Passover Seder. 

The invitation issued at the ritual meal is of particular relevance more than a year into a global pandemic that caused historic unemployment rates and left many Americans struggling to put food on the table.

"It is the invitation to the hungry, but it is also a reminder of the obligation for the hungry to be served and for those with means to bring them sustenance for their very survival," said Rabbi Mark Schiftan, who leads The Temple in Nashville.

Since the pandemic began, they've raised money for Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, paid for hot, restaurant-quality meals for public school families and distributed food boxes through existing programs. They also provided Passover-specific food support in the run-up to the eight-day observance. The major Jewish holiday begins sundown Saturday. 

Due to the pandemic, the Jewish Federation and Jewish Foundation of Nashville and Middle Tennessee held its annual community Seder virtually for the second year in a row. The organizers took the money they would have used to fund this year's meal and provided 1,000 fresh lunches and dinners for those in need, said Deborah Oleshansky, the director of the federation's Community Relations Committee, which puts on the yearly event. 

They partnered with World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit that works with local restaurants to feed the hungry. Together, they tapped into the ongoing food distribution events Metro Nashville Public School's Community Achieves initiative holds."...(more at link)
