Hamilton County Election Commission wants two new early voting locations

A board overseeing Hamilton County elections plans to advocate for two new early voting sites that could be added for August and November elections.

During a Wednesday morning meeting, over a dozen residents lined the walls to watch board members discuss the possibility of new voting sites in St. Elmo and Signal Mountain, which some members said lack easily accessible early voting locations. It costs about $100,000 to add a new voting site per election cycle, according to the county's elections administrator, Scott Allen.

The Hamilton County Election Commission, a five-person board, voted unanimously to add the sites to the proposed budget for fiscal year 2027 — the county's budget years start and end in June, so the May primaries will not have the new early voting sites. The County Commission has to officially approve the budget, meaning commissioners have the power to decline the board's requests.

By March, the board will vote on the exact locations of the sites.
