Hardeman County school board election in dispute after certification

JACKSON, Tenn. (WBBJ) - A Hardeman County school board election remains in dispute after the Tennessee Democratic Party’s state primary board voted to set aside certified results.

Candidate Danita Woods says she won the District 1 school board race and was declared the official winner after the county certified the election in May. The Tennessee Democratic Party issued a memo stating its state primary board voted to set aside the results amid concerns over absentee ballots.

“I ran the election and won it fair and square,” Woods said.

Woods says the election was approved and certified in May, and she believes she was removed illegally. She alleges she won by just a few dozen votes and says her opponent refused to accept the loss.
