To combat sexual harassment, Tennessee lawmakers required to watch 15-minute video

After last year’s scathing report that found Jeremy Durham had engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with at least 22 women and the resulting scrutiny of statehouse culture, the extent of newly mandated sexual harassment training for Tennessee lawmakers is a requirement to watch a 15-minute video.

All staff, interns and lawmakers will be required to go through “an online media training program,” Connie Ridley, director of Legislative Administration, told The Tennessean.

The training, she said, will consist of “a video covering all aspects of the law along with examples of the types of circumstances which might create a hostile discriminatory practice.”

Ridley said the state entered a one-year contract valued at $1,295 with ATS Media, a Chicago-based company. The firm was recommended by the National Conference of State Legislatures.
