Immigration rights activists blocking traffic at 6th Street and Colorado in Austin

Sixth Street is at a standstill near Colorado Street as protesters block traffic, according to a police official.

A press release issued Thursday by the Texas Civic Engagement Table said that immigration rights activists would be meeting for “a highly visual civil disobedience action” starting at 3:15 p.m.

The protest is aimed in part at denouncing Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz “for their anti-immigrant and anti-Latino stance on immigration reform,” according to the press release.
