Hello Fellow DUers,
The long anticipated move from Brenham to Irving occurs tomorrow. I'll only have limited access to the Internet for the next few weeks while I stay at an extended stay hotel and finalize plans for an apartment. Im looking forward to moving back to a more liberal area of the state after residing in this overwhelming red county that didnt have a single Democrat in any of the local races. Ive done my best to report the local news from the events at the Blue Bell creamery to the LaRouche crazies at the post office along with being an active participant in several other groups on DU.
However, rather than say goodbye I decided to declare that Im on highatus during this transition. Im looking forward to meeting a few of my fellow DUers when Im in the Metroplex and on a few other road trips. So in order to leave an impression on everyone, I wanted to do what I do best--leave the gift of another catnip thread!

Ill resume posting on a more frequent basis once I secure my next residence, but Ill also try to check in occasionally via cell phone. Take care, thank you for your support and friendship, and keep up the good fight!

(112,504 posts)I'm looking forward to some catnip there. I use to be somewhat active on the political scene a couple of decades ago when I was a state employee, but I'm more of a curious onlooker now.
It's been nearly three decades since I was in McAllen when my college band went on tour. I doubt that I'll be going that far south since I don't have any ties to that part of the state anymore--I've only made it as far south as San Antonio once in the past decade.

(112,504 posts)I have mixed feelings leaving Brenham. It is a beautiful town and I have a few good memories. However, both of my parents died here and I also lost one of my two cats last year. The fights with my brother also wore me down so I'm hoping that getting away from here will get me out of the funk that I've dealt with for nearly two years.

(112,504 posts)The hotel where I'm staying has WiFi so I might have better access on my desktop than I anticipate. I'll try to check things out on Sunday to see what happens.

(868 posts)I lived in Irving for about a decade when Martin Frost (D) was my congressman. I know he was criticized for being too pro-business, but I found him to be a great guy and his office did a wonderful job helping me with some problems I had getting my VA benefits. Of course he was targeted by Tom Delay's gerrymandering scheme and it no longer in office.
Irving is a nice place to live and you may find some democrats to work with.

(112,504 posts)Unfortunately, it has become Teabagger territory particularly in the State House of Representatives race. We came so close to getting rid of Linda Harper Brown to no avail.
Unemployment and my father being in ill health is what brought me to Brenham and I was sidelined by oral surgery and lack of transportation so I'm hoping that I can make things click after I move back there.
