(68,644 posts)In our service area, we can opt out of smartmeters, you might look into that.
I didn't because I like monitoring my use online.
My bill dropped significantly after installation.

(423 posts)Our monthly bills were noticibly higher soon after. We asked them to come out and make sure that it was working properly. They never said anything was wrong but suddenly our bill dropped to lower than what we were paying before it was installed.
Not sure what the issue was but wasn't going to complain about it.

(3,691 posts)here in Houston. There was no change in my electric bill, in fact, it may have gone down a smidge.
Sorry to hear your's went up. Is this the first bill since you've got your new meter?

But never got a bill that was too high or too low.
You might want to call them up and ask them to come check it out to see if it working properly.

(62,534 posts)the analog smart meters were inherently inaccurate. if you noticed a jump it's because you are now getting the correct reading.
as for myself, I didn't see much of a jump because, it's just me and lady javaman. we don't use much of the devils current as it is.

(1,110 posts)Took him forever to finally get them to realize something was wrong. I don't know the details of what it was and how it was corrected, but I do recall it being a huuge headache for the person. Their power company was unhelpful and refused to give a valid explanation of how such a thing could have happened. I do know they ultimately got it resolved though, just took a lot of effort.
