Abortion clinic reopens in Fort Worth
Whole Womans Health has reopened its Fort Worth abortion clinic after an affiliated doctor gained admitting privileges in a nearby hospital, the company announced Tuesday.
Of five abortion clinics owned by Whole Womans Health, only the McAllen facility remains closed due to a lack of admitting privileges as required by House Bill 2, the abortion-regulation law passed last summer by the Legislature. The companys San Antonio facility is still operating on a part-time basis because only one of two doctors has admitting privileges. The companys clinics in Austin and Beaumont are operating full-time.
About a dozen Texas clinics shut down or stopped offering abortions after the HB 2 requirement went into effect, but Planned Parenthood announced last week that its Austin clinic had resumed providing abortions after an affiliated doctor gained admitting privileges in a nearby hospital. Doctors in the organizations Waco and Fort Worth clinics still lack admitting privileges.
