Cactus Canyon in Victoria accused of kicking out gay couple for second time in two years

For the second time in two years, gay customers are alleging they were kicked out of the same bar in South Texas because of their sexual orientation.

In 2011, three women said they were kicked out of the Cactus Canyon in Victoria by an employee who told them, “This is a country western bar, not a gay bar.” Two of the women reportedly had been holding hands.

Now, a gay couple says they were kicked out of the Cactus Canyon on Saturday night for dancing together.

Justin Meyer and James Douglas were also issued a trespassing warning, according to UPI.com.

“He told me they have a policy that states that they don’t allow males to dance with males to country songs. I said just country, and he said yes,” Douglas said.

Most people wouldn't single them out, but I bet the owners were also afraid the two guys could get beat up on their property. But it was probably more about homophobia.

Cactus Canyon gets in the newspaper's crime section enough.

Homophobia is why the managers reacted in the manner that they did. Just imagine if the Cactus Canyon turned into a gay bar complete with mirrored disco ball, laser lights, smoke machines, explicit photo prints (e.g., Mark Wahlberg in the CK ads) and the aroma of Poppers wafting about? The staff would have to handle money tainted with HIV or other icky diseases from the gay clientele. Oh lawd, we got us a safety issue!

It's not a surprise that the Cactus Canyon is connected with crime though. What else is in Victoria anyway?

Very Catholic, very fundamentalist.

A young woman took a mission trip to Africa and died in a car accident there. Her family announced that they and her friends were praying for her to be raised from death like Lazarus. I think someone finally got them to accept it so they had her funeral.

People here will say all kinds of irrational things to try and justify their ignorant and irrational beliefs.
