Related: About this forumComparison of Texas voter id law with the proposed Alabama voter id law
The Texas law is designed to discourage voting and to make it as difficult as possible to vote. The Alabama law is still bad but has some provisions that make it easier to vote. http://txredistricting.org/post/79312624147/the-striking-contrast-between-voter-id-laws-in-texas Here are the striking differences between the two laws.
In Texas, student IDs are not acceptable forms of ID for voting. In Alabama, an ID from any public or private college or university in the state can be used.
In Texas, government employer IDs, other than military IDs, cannot be used for voting. In Alabama, any federal, state, county, or city employee ID is acceptable.
In Texas, only Texas drivers licenses and identification cards can be used. In Alabama, any ID issued by a state can be used.
In Texas, to obtain a free voter ID, a voter must use a birth certificate or other narrowly proscribed official documentation to get a voter ID. In Alabama, voters may use private employer IDs, high school IDs, and nursing home IDs to obtain a voter ID - and, if they dont have any of those, they can use any non-photo documentation with the voters name and date of birth, including Medicare and Medicaid statements and official school transcripts.
In Texas. election identification certificates are available only from select Department of Public Safety offices - and those notably arent available in every county. In Alabama, a voter ID can be obtained in each county at registrars offices.
There is no voter fraud in either Texas or Alabama and so the only reason for the more restrictive provisions of the Texas law is to make it more difficult to vote. When repugs try to tell you that the Texas voter id law is necessary to stop fraud please tell them that there are less restrictive alternatives. BTW, most of the alternatives were proposed by Texas democrats back in 2011 but were rejected by the Texas GOP because the Texas GOP was only interested in making it harder to vote

(30,058 posts)Voter fraud and I can say it is very enhanced. She also collects money with a link on the website so telling the truth is not in her favor because her donations would cease. In Florida they attempted to purge voter registration by looking for like or same names and declaring voter fraud, would bet the ones they "purged" was registered Democrats. I have an unusual last name uncommon spelling of my first name but there are two listings in the US, ergo voter fraud probably on me since I am registered Democrat. On common names if someone in the state died then the would say "dead" people are voting. Her information shows thousands of voter fraud, it is without any proof, just fraud on her part.

(145,631 posts)The lady who runs True the Vote lives in my county. Juanita Jean has had some issues with True the Vote and its leaders http://www.juanitajean.com/2013/03/28/an-open-letter-to-cathy-engelbrecht-queen-of-true-the-vote/
Dear Ms. Engelbrecht,
As head honcho of the King Street Patriots and True the Vote along with being a neighbor of mine, I tragically and mistakenly assumed that you thought voter fraud was serious bidness.
I was very mistaken. True the Vote is just a money raising scheme for you. I apologize for any damage that my false assumption may have caused you on your quest to rock stardom in GOP circles and your own slot on Fox News.
Early last October we gave you rock solid Supreme Court proof that your own personal candidate for County Commissioner in Fort Bend County, Bruce Flemming, voted in two different states Texas and Pennsylvania in the same damn elections. In 2006, 2008, and 2010, Bruce voted in person in Fort Bend County and by mail in Pennsylvania in the same general elections. According to his financial disclosure forms, Bruce Fleming also owns a house in Pennsylvania. (He homesteaded a house in Texas and a house in Pennsylvania, but that illegality is a whole nother story.) Bruce felt that owning houses in both states gave him the right to vote in the same elections in both states. Thats a third degree felony in Texas.
We gave you copies of the papers and everything. We also gave you proof that his wife did it, too, in 2010....
You can read the rest of the post but it is clear that True the Vote is nothing but a way for the King Street Patriots to raise money. True the Vote does not care about voter fraud.
BTW, True the Vote is also represented by an idiot named Christian Adams who was illegally hired by the bushies and then urged to leave the DOJ. Adams is a sorry excuse for a lawyer who is too stupid to care about voter fraud

(10,497 posts)a Republican city council woman named Pinky Jackal. Mrs. Jackal and her attorney husband got caught claiming 2 Homestead exemptions. She is one of the nastiest, meanest individuals I have ever had the misfortune to meet. Republicans are the party of voter fraud!

(30,058 posts)Perhaps they promote this fraud in order to stuff the ballot boxes. Two states with photo voter ID and they are still committing fraud, guess the ID is not safe either.
