After 144 beers reported stolen, suspect may have been obvious

RICHMOND, TEXAS -- A 44-year-old woman who apparently had a raging thirst early Thursday morning allegedly stole six cases of beer from a convenience store in Richmond and then drank a cold one when a police officer stopped her as she was driving away.

Valerie Dixon, of Richmond, pulled up about 5 a.m. to the Valero store at 207 Highway 90A, according to the Richmond Police Department.

Police said Dixon walked into the store and confronted the clerk, who was standing at the back counter. She pressed what appeared to be weapon against the clerk's back and ordered the person to go into the back room of the store. Instead, the clerk went to the area near the cash register and called 911.

Police said Dixon then grabbed three cases of beer and went outside. She put the beer in her vehicle and walked back into the store, grabbing three more cases of beer. She put those in her vehicle, too. Then she drove away.
