Texas A&M University-Galveston researchers see positive signs after oil spill

Scientists at Texas A&M University-Galveston were able to get out on the water last week to analyze the effect of the recent oil spill on local sea life.

The group of Texas A&M scientists was asked by the Coast Guard to see if the March 22 oil spill was having a negative impact on plant and animal life in the affected waters.

Capt. Allan Post, executive director of waterfront operations for Texas A&M University-Galveston, said the first excursion put everyone at ease.

"All the dolphins we found were in good health," he said. "There was a little bit of oil, but the skimmers were right there. They're doing a pretty amazing job getting it out of the water."
