Dallas dentist pouring his own money into U.S. Senate campaign

WASHINGTON — With the money he’s spent to unseat Sen. John Cornyn, millionaire Dallas dentist David Alameel could have bought two or three Camaros for every sitting senator.

But as with most wealthy candidates who fund their own campaigns, all that spending probably won’t buy him a win on Election Day.

Alameel has spent more than $9.5 million so far from his own pocket — all but 1 percent of his campaign’s expenditures. No congressional candidate has spent more from personal funds this year.

Since 2002, the Senate candidates who’ve chipped in at least $1 million have won only 10 percent of the time. Fewer than half made it past their party’s primary.

He also raised a decent percentage of his income charging the government through Medicaid programs.

He is a far better candidate than I expected. It will be difficult to defeat Sen. Boxturtle but he may come close

Came to the US from Israel, picked crops in California, joined the Army and got his education via GI Bill. Built a good business and then set up the franchises. The Jefferson Dental clinics is the company. He sold the business a few years ago and that is how he made the real money.

It may in fact be that he had a lot of Medicaid clients as he would be a provider who would be supportive of Medicaid (there are a lot of providers that don't take Medicaid) He could easily have expanded his business that way

He gets it because he's been there and he hasn't forgotten. He really got riled up when he talked about how the Kochroach brothers and those like them are out to destroy the middle class and turn America into a minimumwage nation. It would be great to have him in the Senate and sent John Cornyn into retirement

and he has also given to Republican candidates in previous elections. While I will for Alameel this year it is primarily because he is a better choice than Cornyn and who isn't, with the exception of Ted Cruz.
