Wendy Davis and Greg Abbott clash over abortion and other women's issues

The candidates for governor renewed their fight over women’s issues Tuesday, with Wendy Davis charging that Greg Abbott had belittled women with his strict abortion stance and Abbott countering that Davis was playing politics instead of helping solve issues important to women.

Speaking at a Dallas luncheon sponsored by Annie’s List, a group that promotes progressive female candidates, Davis blistered Abbott for supporting a ban on abortion in all cases except when the woman’s life is at risk.

“Maybe if he put himself in the place of women who’ve had to make the heartbreaking decision to end a pregnancy instead of sitting on high, belittling the pain and trauma they’ve been through as though he has a right to judge, he’d understand that his position is offensive to every woman who’s ever stepped foot in this state and a betrayal of everything we stand for,” Davis said. “The last thing Texas women need in their lives is Greg Abbott.”

Officials in Abbott’s campaign did not respond to a question about his views on whether abortions should be allowed for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest. In the past, Abbott has said he’s against abortion even in those circumstances.

What is a surprise is that if Abbott wins, it indicates most of those women don't care because if they voted in numbers Abbott would lose
