Cat show brings purr-fect cats to the Omni hotel in Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI - Looking for the purr-fect cat? Then head to the International Feline Showcase’s Catmas on the Beach this weekend.

Beginning Friday at the Omni Bayfront Hotel, about 150 pure bred cats will be judge for how they meet standards in front of 18 judges who are coming from as far as France and Canada. So these aren’t everyday house cats.

“The cat show validates confirmation on each cat,” said Leslie Hurley, entry clerk for the cat show. “In other words, if you’re breeding the judges will say that you’re doing the right thing and that you have a winning cat by written standard.”

The cats are not being compared to each other, Hurley said. They are judged based on their breed.

I've never heard of such a thing, is it even possible?

TT, Hope you and your lovely cat had a good holiday. The wind has been howling for days and it will be snowing and in the twenties this weekend.

(If you call being sick as a dog but still managing to drive everyone about and satisfy them interesting. No appetite at all, either.)

Seem to be having a lot of days like that lately. And can't do anything about it. Except avoid negativity. Hope you are doing better than a while back.

It's been up and down for the last few weeks. I had some problems with my feet in October (cut on the sole of the left foot and jammed my big toe on my right foot) so walking was difficult. I met with the Social Security psychiatrist a week ago and hopefully the report on my overall state of mind will finally be enough to get approved for benefits.

I've been alone most of today, but I'm glad that it has been a peaceful day. I'm about to indulge on my dessert tonight (black forest cheesecake over a cherry glaze) so the day will end well.

...have blue eyes. There is something especially captivating about blue-eyed cats - it's almost like there is a little human in there somewhere looking out at you thru those blue eyes.

I used to work at one of the few pet-friendly motels in the area and was happy when the cat folks came to town. Though their cats left a terrible mess for the housekeepers, the people were incredibly friendly. They were very eccentric and quirky -which isn't a bad thing when your usual clientele are rough-necked curmudgeons.

Their arrival also gave me a rare chance to admire and play with cats. I don't often have the chance; my wife and daughter are both allergic.
