Report: Man who says he was fired by Fox 7 kills self near News Corp.
A former employee of Austin’s KTBC Channel 7 killed himself early Monday outside the New York offices of News Corp., the company that owns the station, according to published reports.
Phillip Perea, who alleges in a series of online posts that he was fired by Fox 7 last year, fatally shot himself once in the chest just before 9 a.m., according to the Wall Street Journal.
In those online posts, Perea, 41, claims he was let go by Fox 7 management on May 19 for what he calls “dubious reasons.”
A promotions producer, Perea worked at Fox 7 for 10 months, according to a statement released by the station. He had previously worked for TV stations in Tyler and Harlingen.
