Police-stop language halts open carry gun bill

The open-carry bill, inches from the finish line, was derailed Wednesday by law enforcement objections to language limiting the ability of police to stop and question those with a gun.

Passed by both houses, House Bill 910 was back in the House, where its author urged representatives to send it to Gov. Greg Abbott by agreeing to changes made by the Senate.

What is typically a quick vote with little discussion, however, broke down into an intense debate over an amendment that bars police from stopping somebody with an openly displayed handgun solely to check for a concealed handgun license.

Two former police officers who support open carry — Reps. Phil King, R-Weatherford, and Allen Fletcher, R-Cypress — urged their colleagues to vote against concurring with the changes, sending HB 910 to a conference committee to work on the no-stop amendment.

4. The bagger woman is for women's and gay's rights, and is really turned off the GOP now.

And ready to vote HRC for just those two issues alone. She is not gay but worked with many in her field for her whole life. Anyone who fails to speak loud and clear on reproductive rights and the rights of all minorities is neglecting a sense of resentment that is too often dismissed, and is important to many regardless of financial concerns. But they vote consistently.
