Suspect in custody in death of Hutto police Sgt. Chris Kelley, officer intentionally run down

Sgt. Chris Kelley

HUTTO, TEXAS -- A suspect is in custody in the death of Hutto police Sgt. Chris Kelley, Hutto City Manager Karen Daly said Wednesday afternoon.

Kelley, 37, died after being intentionally run down by a felon suspect Wednesday morning, sources said. He is the first Hutto police officer ever killed in the line of duty.

The slain officer leaves behind a wife and two children, both under the age of 10, Daly said during a press conference in Georgetown.

Kelley was one of 25 officers sworn to protect the city of Hutto.

I passed that area twice today. The news kept saying that an officer had been run down, but was not in danger. I'm so sorry. Hutto is very small town. I'm sure everybody knew him.

I knew the back county roads between Hutto and Georgetown well since it was within my "rolling" territory as a college student.
