Bizarre: Far-right politics

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Tormented tangles can result when conservative legislators obey the GOP's fundamentalist wing. Here are a couple of weird examples:

In Texas, right-wing lawmakers decreed that no Medicaid funds may go to women's health clinics "affiliated" with organizations that terminate pregnancies. In February, the administration of Gov. Rick Perry shut off Medicaid money for eight Planned Parenthood clinics treating low-income women -- even though none of the clinics halt pregnancies. In response, the federal government blocked Medicaid funds for Texas.

All sides sued. One judge ruled that Texas must support the Planned Parenthood clinics. Another judge contradicted the ruling. The issue is in limbo. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said the state will end its women's health program, rather than fund the clinics.

At one point, Abbott seemed to compare Planned Parenthood to a terrorist group -- but later he denied saying it. Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney has vowed to "get rid of" Planned Parenthood.

You're right; we are the butt of American jokes. And little ricky perry's oops moments didn't help us much either.

Used to be we could always say we were better than Louisiana and Mississippi. Those days are gone. We're at rock bottom right now.
