Bernie, the movie

If you are from Texas, do yourself a favor and go see the movie 'Bernie', starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, and Matthew McConaughey. We just got home from seeing it, and give it two thumbs up. While this is a true story, the way it's told is done as a dark comedy. If you've ever lived in Texas, you will appreciate the characters. This movie is based on a true story written about in Texas Monthly, by Skip Hollandsworth. Skip and Richard Linklater wrote the script for this movie.

It's the story of Bernie Tiede (played by Jack Black), assistant funeral director, from Carthage, Texas, who shot Marjorie Nugent (played by Shirley MacLaine) 4 times, and kept her body in a freezer in the garage for 9 months. Matthew McConaughey plays the DA, Danny Buck Davidson.

Very well done by all.

And Richard Linklater is a Texan as well.

Linklater gave Matthew McConaughey his first big movie break with Dazed and Confused. They are still good friends.

I've heard the same thing as you about the film. A must see.

Thanks!

few movies, but liked this one and one person had a close to connection to one of the characters. Looks like something to see.

best performances to date. Matthew McConaughey's mother, who apparently is from a little town not too far from Carthage, plays one of the Carthage residents.
