Dallas mayor 'deeply concerned' about sex expo at convention center

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings sided with critics this week in calling himself “deeply concerned” that the Dallas Convention Center will play host to sex expo Exxxotica.

The three-day expo which calls itself the “largest adult event in the USA dedicated to love & sex” kicks off in Dallas a week from Friday. It promises sex seminars, fetish performances, Q&As about the commercial sex industry and meet-and-greets with dozens of porn stars.

But a few local groups weren’t amused.

The Dallas Women’s Foundation today penned a letter to Mayor Mike Rawlings, copied to female elected leaders and heads of the Convention and Visitors Bureau and Chamber of Commerce, critiquing the decision to rent city-owned Convention Center space to the event.

4. It's the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center

Remember, it's not the Dallas Convention Center anymore, it's the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. Mayor Mike Rawlings made a big deal out of getting the convention center named for our former Senator, so make sure people know that the porn convention is at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.

6. I just love the irony

The name change was originally timed to embarrass Democrats, as we prepared to hold our convention there. But as it turned out, the signage wasn't even ready in time for our state convention, it still said "Dallas Convention Center," with one weenie little electric sign in front saying "Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center."

But now, it's fully decked out with her name all over it, and there's even a venue inside called "Kay's Place." I do hope some of the strippers in attendance will pose at the "Kay's Place" sign.
