45 vehicles at San Antonio dealership robbed of wheels, left on blocks

AN ANTONIO — The Ancira family is looking for answers after 45 vehicles at their Leon Valley location were robbed of wheels and left on blocks early Sunday morning.

April Ancira, daughter of Ernesto Ancira and vice president of the popular auto group, said in an email to mySA.com that 39 Chevy Silverados and six Camaros were hit by robbers at their 6111 Bandera Rd. dealership on the Northwest Side.

Surveillance footage showed 5 male suspects in hoodies leaving the property at around 5:25 a.m. Sunday morning in a Penske truck, she said. Two were loading the stolen property into the getaway vehicle, another two were ripping the tires off while one kept lookout, she said.

“It took 5 hours for them to do the job, how no one noticed is a mystery at the moment,” she said. “It is still early in the investigation.”

They have surveillance camera footage so I doubt that anyone would have risked it. They said that the dealership estimates the loss at about $300,000.

That happened at a hotel where I was working many years ago. Many of the guests loaded their luggage into their cars before going into the restaurant for breakfast. Must have been the coffee that awakened them to the blocks where their tires used to be.

I don't think so. Stock wheels even with the best rubber mounted on them wouldn't run half that price, even for full sized trucks.

CCTV does nothing to prevent such a crime.
