Streets reopened after six railroad cars derail in Brownwood
Railroad crews worked to repair tracks Tuesday following the derailment of six train cars Monday evening under the Truman Harlow Overpass in Brownwood.
City Manager Emily Crawford said Tuesday afternoon that crews were removing the damaged tracks to install new tracks.
After the completion of the work, most of the streets in the area will be reopened, except for the frontage road on the Howard Payne University side of the overpass that is accessed from the U.S. Highway 377 North Carnegie Street exit, she said via email.
Crawford added that "this part of the access road will be closed until sometime Thursday to allow for delivery of additional materials needed to repair the tracks that cross the access road."
The six cars of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe train that derailed Monday evening were removed Tuesday. Most of the cars carried silica sand. No hazardous materials were carried in the cars and no injuries were reported.
