It would be easier and cheaper. But, I guess not enough would see it from the air, unless it was during the Rapture

The Gulf coast does not get earthquakes (wrong geology.)

And yes it would probably split open the Gulf floor. High Tide line would be just outside El Campo.

Here the bedrock is much deeper and just not right for (naturally-occurring) earthquakes.

Again, if Corpus got such an earthquake, then we'd all be in big trouble.
