Chris Bell: Wake up, Texas Democrats. You’re about to blow it.

Disclaimer. I know Chris Bell and have worked on a couple of his campaigns including a run for SD 17 State Senate run against a truly repugnant republican a couple of years ago. Chris is currently in deep do do with Texas Democrats for backing the GOP candidate in the Houston Mayor's runoff. I and others worked hard to get Sylvester Turner elected mayor of Houston instead the tea party hacked backed by Chris Bell
.
Chris makes some good comments about the reason why Texas democrats need to vote for Hillary Clinton http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/latest-columns/20160219-chris-bell-wake-up-texas-democrats.-youre-about-to-blow-it..ece#commentsOuterWrapper It seems that someone forgot to read the last three paragraphs of the article

For years, the Republicans were smart enough to come together to nominate someone who could potentially appeal to a majority. It appears very likely they won’t do that this year. So we should turn the tables and, at the very least, if you don’t support Hillary Clinton, stop denigrating and damaging her. This fiction that she’s not progressive is just that — fiction. She has been on the forefront of the progressive movement since she was in college and she’ll take those same values to the White House.

She will also allow us to win here in Texas. When more and more Republicans start looking for a new home, I assure you they will be far more willing to join a party led by Hillary Clinton than a party led by Bernie Sanders.

I completely understand youthful idealism; I had plenty of it. And I certainly understand the anger that has turned many Sanders’ way. But idealism and anger are not going to change our state; that is only going to happen when Democrats once again become competitive statewide. Along with a lot of others, I am so tired of toiling in the trenches for the Democratic Party and then watching as we form a circular firing squad.

We need to seize this opportunity we’ve been handed. We need to be relevant once again.

Like many Texas Democrats, including Chris Bell, I am supporting Hillary Clinton because she can help turn Texas blue. If Carnival Cruz or Trump is the nominee, then we will be picking up a number of GOP voters who are too sane to vote for Carnival Cruz or Trump.

And have yet to meet a sane Republican...

In my experience Texas "republicans" are bigoted, ethically challenged and morally bankrupt.

Regardless of the nominee, Texas's self-proclaimed "conservatives" are not going to vote for a Democrat.

If Jesus Christ himself appeared in Texas and ran as a Democrat he would lose.

Sorry Chris... I have been to this rodeo before. I'll stick with Sanders...at least he stands on principle which is more than I can say for most Texas Democratic politicians.

in fact, from my experiences, half of the democrats (elected and voters) are really "moderate Republicans"....they want no tax money to help the needy, the want to let businesses screw the workers and the customers, they pander to the conservatives ---rarely a real liberal or progressive idea or candidate to be encouraged or promoted.

It's always, Texas and Texans are conservative, it won't work here....well, fuck it all --- no one has tried anything remotely close to liberal in 20 years!!! How do we know it won't work? But, lets stick with the same old failed ideas, people, and policies.

Sorry, lots of frustration here!

How do we get the Dixiecrats and moderate Republicans out of our party and return it to the liberal and progressive entity it once was?

I have no idea...I just keep pointing out to people I know that there are a lot of DINOs in our county!

The Texas group has devolved into a branch of the General Discussion: Primaries forum. I'll pass on this, thank you very much.

all this fretting & tut-tutting over those of us voting for Bernie makes me wonder what the fuck the Hillary camp is so damn afraid of. You aren't supposed to "punch down."

The party itself is neutral in the race but many Texas Democrats are hopeful that a Clinton/Castro ticket vs Trump or Carnival Cruz will be a good race for Texas

We will just have to work harder and spreading the Bern!!!

Half of my female friends over 60 are voting for Hillary because they want a female president before they die....yep, they have told me this....I pointed out that that voting for Hillary because she is female IS sexism, they don't agree....and a few now say that she is the "most qualified". Yeah, right.

The national Democratic Party wrote us off years ago. Texas redistricting met no opposition at the national level...

Delay and Army rewrote the statutes and The National Dem party did nothing.

I remember raising the issue of black box fraud with the Tarrant County Dem chair and getting nowhere...

If Bernie does win the popular vote delegates, they *better* flip.

So they are irrelevant except as talking points and campaign surrogates, and, IMHO, should not even be listed in the current delegate count.
