Police: $70K-plus stolen from Lumberton Band Booster Club spent at casinos

Former Lumberton Band Booster Club Treasurer Helen Cox was arrested Thursday morning on a felony charge of misapplication of fiduciary property.

Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sullins said Cox is accused of stealing more than $70,800 from the booster club. Sullins said most of the money was spent at casinos.

"A good portion of the money... was used at the Golden Nugget casino," as well as at other casinos in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi, according to Lt. Joseph Breaux, Jr.

Eason said Cox was an accountant in theft protection/loss prevention for Jason's Deli.
