Abbott asks Legislature for $108 million for Texas Enterprise Fund

Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday called on the Legislature to “fully fund” the Texas Enterprise Fund to the tune of $108 million over the next two years — a move that was cheered by business groups around the state.

“If you are truly committed to adding jobs and growing our economy,” Abbott said during his State of the State address, “you need to fully fund the Enterprise Fund.”

Abbott asked for more money for the fund in his newly released budget than the $90 million he asked for in 2015. Last time, he was able to get full funding from a Legislature that had initially floated proposals of as little as $30 million.

Lawmakers have again proposed a much smaller number than the governor’s request. Both the House’s and the Senate’s initial budgets appropriate $43 million for the fund over the next two years.
