Students fight back after anti-abortion group protests with 'gruesome images' at Liberty High in Frisco

After an anti-abortion group began protesting outside Liberty High School in Frisco ISD this week, using signs with images of fetuses, about 100 students fought back with a counterprotest to protect nearby elementary students.

On Monday, the Abolitionist Society of Little Elm protested at the high school. By Wednesday, students decided to create a mock protest so children at nearby Isbell Elementary didn’t have to see the “gruesome images,” said senior Bailey Smith.

Todd Bullis, an organizer for the anti-abortion group, said the signs "show the truth and this is what our society says is OK, so society should be able to look at it." Bullis said the group began protesting at abortion clinics, but moved on to high schools after seeing teenagers at the clinics.

Smith and senior Clay Bryan decided it wasn't appropriate for the group to show the signs where young children could see them. They reached out to fellow students on Twitter to come to campus with mock protest posters with funny sayings and pop culture references, like "Stop premature Christmas decorating." They also asked them to chant several messages, including "the Krusty Krab is unfair," from the TV show Spongebob Squarepants.

While many students have displayed satirical signs, others have advocated for abortion rights. The counterprotesters outnumbered the Little Elm group about 10-to-1.
