State Rep. Dawnna Dukes pleads 'unequivocally not guilty' ahead of October trial

Dawnna Dukes is adamant that she’s not guilty in her public corruption case and says she has no interest in accepting a plea deal.

After arriving two-and-a-half hours late to court on Friday morning, Dukes stood before Travis County state district Judge Brad Urrutia and was arraigned on 13 felony counts. To each count, she responded “unequivocally not guilty.”

An Oct. 16 trial was set.

Prosecutor Justin Wood told the court the district attorney’s office will likely rescind a plea offer in advance of the trial. Specifics of that deal have not been released. Pressed by the judge, Wood said he was not comfortable revealing the deal because he is not working directly on the case and was standing-in for another prosecutor.

Outside of court, Dukes said she is innocent.
