Houston Housing Authority sued by residents of senior apartment building



Attorneys have filed a lawsuit against the Houston Housing Authority -- owner of the 2100 Memorial senior housing complex -- less than a week after the authority gave residents five days to vacate the building so it could inspect it for damage from Hurricane Harvey.

The suit, filed by Lone Star Legal Aid late Friday in state district court, seeks to block the authority from canceling the leases of the building's 198 residents.

Legal Aid attorneys Mark Grandich and Rich Tomlinson filed the suit on behalf of three residents.

Apartments in the building "suffered little, or no, damage from Hurricane Harvey," according to the petition.

Most senior buildings are filled with old women almost exclusively. Can you imagine having everything you own removed from your home, leaving you old, impoverished and on the street? Some of them may have family who could take them I , but some won't.
