Search ends in Floresville after unsubstantiated report of shooter--Mike Pence in area
An unsubstantiated report of a gunman in Floresville on Wednesday afternoon prompted a search by law enforcement that was called off after more than an hour.
At around 3:30 p.m., a report that a man had fired shots near a nursing home at Sixth Street and Hospital Boulevard prompted a swift response from nearby law enforcement, who were awaiting the arrival of Vice President Mike Pence. The VP will be attending a vigil for victims of Sundays church massacre in nearby Sutherland Springs.
At least 50 officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Wilson County Sheriffs Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive and other agencies launched an air and land search of the area.
After more than an hour, the search for a gunman was called off.
The incident prompted a lockdown at the Wilson County Courthouse.
