Official: Norovirus sickened 110 people at Round Rock baseball banquet
ROUND ROCK -- Norovirus was what sickened 110 people who attended a fajita banquet {at La Margarita restaurant} April 30 for Round Rock High School baseball players, a health official said.
The Williamson County and Cities Health District learned Monday that two stool samples taken from people who became sick after the banquet tested positive for norovirus, said John Teel, the districts executive director. He said the rest of those who became sick had similar symptoms that follow the pattern for norovirus, including cramps, vomiting and diarrhea.
All of the people who became ill have since recovered and no one was hospitalized, Teel said.
Norovirus is the most common cause of food-borne outbreaks in the United States, Teel said. He said the incident at the banquet was the biggest outbreak of norovirus reported in Williamson County in his three-year career in the county.
