State Rep. Dan Flynn of Van wants to make sure that any Texas teacher who wants to display the Ten Commandments in his or her classroom may do so.
Thats why he filed House Bill 307 that says school officials particularly school board trustees cannot prevent copies of those commandments from being posted in a prominent location in classrooms.
I think its a good idea, said Flynn. If a teacher wants to put it in her classroom, she should be able to do it just as if she wanted to put up Halloween, Thanksgiving or any other decorations.
I think its a good list of disciplines that young people would find very meaningful to them.

(9,897 posts)I don't care about the 10 commandments as much as the preferred treatment of one religion or religious tradition above others at a state run facility or institution.
You keep YOUR religion at home and your church and we will get along just fine...start inserting it where it doesn't belong (ie. in state sanctioned institutions) and I want ALL of the books and ALL the traditions studied and understood...
Christianity (2.2 billion followers) - The Holy Bible (Old Testament and New Testament)
Islam (1.6 billion followers) - The Quran
Hinduism (1 billion followers) - The Vedas
Buddhism (376 million followers) - Tripitaka (Pali Canon)
Sikhism (23 million followers) - Guru Granth Sahib
Judaism (14 million followers) - The Hebrew Bible (Old Testament)
Baháí (7 million followers) - Kitáb-i-Aqdas
Jainism (4.2 million followers) - Agam Sutras
Shinto (4 million followers) - Kojiki
Zeroastrianism (2.6 million followers) - Avesta
AND....for good measure, I want a moment of silent contemplation of the absence of gods as well...get all of that in and you can have your pitiful commandments too as part of the deal...
Public schools are for educating students in the basics of reading, writing, arithmetic, and preparing them for more advanced concepts as they move up...religious instruction AT HOME or ON YOUR OWN TIME is just fine and dandy, its just not fine or dandy when given state sanction above other traditions and faiths. This should not be complicated for even our inbred hillbilly countrymen to understand...just ask them for a Quran recitation alongside their school prayers and they will get it...

No other religions allowed. And hey first-graders, don't commit adultery or covet your neighbor's wife. I'll explain that to you; I'm sure your parents won't mind.
