Well, if U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro won't run against Sen. John Cornyn, a growing number of people just might.
Chris Bell, a trial lawyer and former Democratic congressman from Houston, is the latest possible contender. Bell told the Texas Tribune he's considering a 2020 challenge against the three-term Republican senator after Castro recently announced his intention to focus on the U.S. House.
But Bell isn't all in. At least not yet. He said he's still in the "very early" stage of deliberation, adding that he could make a formal announcement this summer.
If Bell jumps into the race, he'll join MJ Hegar, a former Air Force helicopter pilot who lost a close 2018 congressional race to flip Republican-dominated Round Rock. A couple of other prominent Democratic contenders has also thrown their hats into the ring.

Chris Bell ran for governor in 2006 against Rick Perry in a race that also included independent candidates Kinky Friedman and Carole Strayhorn.

(112,122 posts)It will be interesting to see if any other candidates arise beside Hegar. While I agree with most of her positions, her low name recognition going into a campaign against Cornyn will be an obstacle to overcome.
