Missy Shorey, first woman elected to lead Dallas County GOP, died from accidental mix of alcohol, sleeping aids

Missy Shorey, the first woman elected to lead the Dallas County GOP, died from an accidental mixture of sleeping pills and alcohol, officials say.

Shorey, 47, died April 24 while she and her husband were in Washington, D.C.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Washington said Friday that her death was an accident and was caused by intoxication from diphenhydramine, ethanol, phentermine, temazepam and zolpidem.

Diphenhydramine and Zolpidem are the generic names of Benadryl and Ambien, respectively, while temazepam is a sedative sold under the name Restoril. Ethanol is alcohol, and phentermine is a diet medication.

Considering that three of the substances above require a prescription, I'm surprised that this combination of prescriptions didn't raise a red flag.

know what another had prescribed.

That combo of drugs and alcohol would be unlikely to show up in someone without a drug and/or alcohol problem.

but pharmacy shopping which means that it was a set of deliberate actions rather than something which was accidental. I suspect that her brain must of have been in a fog most of the time with that mix of sedatives and depressants.

whether to be up or down but the alcohol was the Queen of Spades in the mix, and decided it for her.

Perhaps gotten from a different doctor, or patient told to only take the 2nd if the 1st didn't work.

None of those 3 though, even taken together at Rx'd doses, are going to kill you. You might sleep a long time, but ...

It's the mixing of booze + probably taking way more of the two sleep-aids than Rx'D ... that did her in.

Phentermine is actually a stimulant, which probably masked the effects of the alcohol she'd been drinking. Then she got back to the hotel, and took 3 of these, and 2 of those ... just to make sure I get a good nights sleep! And boom ...

Ambien while intended for short term use is often used by folks for years which requires higher doses as the body builds up an immunity. This lady was also taking a sedative. Benadryl also causes drowsiness. Drinking on this mix of drugs is really dangerous.
