BREAKING: Texas Democratic Party Files Federal Lawsuit on vote by Mail due to COVID 19

Here is an e-mail that I just received from the head of voter protection at the state democratic Party

I wanted to be sure you saw this press release that went out Tuesday.

We've filed a law suit in U.S. District Court against Governor Abbott, the Texas Secretary of State, the Travis County Clerk, and the Bexar County Elections Administrator to ensure that every eligible Texan can vote by mail during this pandemic. As the Party's Voter Protection Director, I'm incredibly proud of the work we're doing to support our democracy during this challenging time.

We're going to keep fighting to protect Texans' during this crisis - no one should have to choose between their health and exercising their right to vote.

Here's a few more of our latest press releases regarding the coronavirus outbreak and our litigation to protect Texans:

We'll keep you updated about opportunities to engage with our voter protection work, but in the meantime please don't hesitate to reach out to learn more. And, if you are so inclined to support the largest voter protection program the Party has ever organized, you can do so here.

Our work continues, and is now more important than ever. Thanks for all your support to the Texas Democratic Party.

Stay safe and healthy,

Rose Clouston

Here is part of the press release
Austin, TX — Today, the Texas Democratic Party filed a lawsuit in United States District Court against Governor Abbott, Secretary of State Ruth Hughes, the Travis County Clerk, and the Bexar County Elections Administrator in our ongoing effort to demand mail-in voting during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Texas Democratic Party contends that state law allows any voter to cast a mail-in ballot given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“As we face the worst public health crisis in a century, neither Governor Abbott nor Secretary of State Hughes have issued concrete guidance to county election officials on whether voters can cast a mail-in ballot during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Republicans have opposed vote-by-mail without providing any credible justification. Current law allows any voter whose health may be injured by voting in person to vote by mail. As our city and county leaders issue shelter-in-place orders and our residents are urged to stay inside, we must protect Texans’ ability to cast a ballot without jeopardizing their health or safety.

“Texas Democrats will continue to protect our fundamental right to vote and the integrity of our elections. We must not allow the coronavirus outbreak to halt our democracy.”

Republicans have admitted that "vote by mail" hurts their chances (except Florida) . . .

In person voting preferred. Remember, that they own majority of the voting machines.
