Police investigating after video shows mounted patrol officer trample protester in downtown Houston

Houston police say they're investigating a video showing a mounted patrol officer trampling a woman protesting during Friday's demonstration over the officer-involved death of Houston-native George Floyd.

The video, posted to Twitter, was taken near police headquarters along Travis Street in the afternoon. Alison Amador, who recorded the video, told Chron.com the demonstrators were surrounding another demonstrator who had been injured during a scuffle with police when the mounted officer came through.

In the video, the officer on the horse appears to blow a whistle, which is meant to warn people that the horse is coming through.

"When things got louder, the cops brought in horses," Amador said. "From my point of view, it looked like to me the cop saw her standing there but continued to plow through."

Horses do NOT like stepping on people, and will usually turn themselves inside out trying to avoid it. The cop was in front of the car, then circles around and came in from behind. It looks like he was pushing the horse forward, who stepped on the woman's heel or shoe. It tripped her up. Then you see the horse trying not to step on her.

Horses don't deserve to be put in that kind of situation. Police forces will do it because most people are very intimidated by a horse's size.

Cops should not be allowed to use horses or dogs because they abuse them.

The horse clearly tried to not apply much pressure when it accidentally stepped on her.

the officer was doing it on purpose. That poor horse was trying to go around her. I saw how the cop was handling the reins and leaning forward and to the left not giving the horse a way out or stop before trampling her. That horse was freaked out and in my opinion that was animal abuse also.

There was a whistle---that meant get out of the way. She didn't, so it's her fault she got stepped on
