Ex-Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway seeks release to home confinement over coronavirus concerns
Disgraced former Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway, who is serving a nearly five-year prison sentence for accepting bribes and kickbacks, has asked a federal judge to transfer him to home confinement because of health concerns related to the coronavirus.
Caraway, 68, is incarcerated at a minimum-security federal facility in Big Spring.
In a motion filed Tuesday in federal district court, his attorney Michael Payma said Caraway is clearly a high-risk prisoner, in terms of suffering severe complications from the virus, because of his age and numerous medical problems.
Before being sentenced in his corruption case, Caraway had been receiving care for esophageal dyskinesia, hypertension, polyneurophathy and sleep apnea, Payma said. He also underwent a heart procedure after a prison transfer.
