San Antonio entering Stage 2 water rules this week due to low rainfall
San Antonio's sunny weather has come with a cost.
On Monday, April 19, SAWS announced the city's is implementing new watering rules due to the area receiving less than 40 percent of normal rainfall since June 2020. The Edwards Aquifer "provides San Antonio with an abundant source of groundwater," according to the city. Now with agricultural water use increasing with spring crops, the aquifer's 10-day average has dropped to 649.9 feet, triggering Stage 2 watering rules, SAWS stated in its news release.
Beginning on Tuesday, April 20, the hours during which watering is allowed are shortened. Watering with a sprinkler, irrigation system, or soaker hose is allowed only between 7 to 11 a.m. on your designated day.
Watering days are determined by the last number of your address:
0 or 1 Monday
2 or 3 Tuesday
4 or 5 Wednesday
6 or 7 Thursday
8 or 9 Friday
No watering on the weekends
