COVID-19 outbreak reported among Galveston Co. church members after camp

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- More than 125 adults and youth from a Galveston County church camp event have tested positive for COVID-19, the church said in a statement to its members.

The Clear Creek Community Church youth ministry camp was held at a facility near Giddings, Texas, last month.

"Unfortunately, upon return from camp, 125+ campers and adults reported to us that they tested positive for COVID-19," church officials said in a statement. "Additionally, hundreds more were exposed to COVID-19 at camp. And hundreds of others were likely exposed when infected people returned home from camp. We seek to remain in contact with those impacted. If you, or someone in your family, begins to have symptoms, please seek medical attention immediately."

Galveston County Health District officials said Friday they were investigating the outbreak at the five-day event that was attended by around 450 adults and children in sixth through 12th grades. The first case was reported to them on June 27.

I get the weekly Giddings newspaper to keep in touch with an area where I spent a few of my younger years. For several months now I’ve been stunned to see photos from lots of different community events full of people wearing no masks. Curious to see if this will get a mention in the next issue.

is why a group from an area between metro Houston and the coast would drive two and half hours inland to a camp facility near a small town in a rural county? There must be lots of nice places closer to them. Giddings is not far enough inland to be part of the more scenic Hill Country. It's very flat, lots of fields. Cows. Farm ponds. Maybe that's a nice change of pace when you live near the coast?

Every so often a local group would schedule an event out there. They had a pool! Two trampolines! Just didn’t seem big enough to draw people in from the other side of Houston. Maybe they’ve expanded quite a bit in the decades I’ve been away.

To weed out the stew-pud.

Maybe someone will tell the Governor who is justifying his sending state police to the border because desperate immigrants are bringing in the deadly Covid19 virus - that it’s not just them!

...so why do believers deny the unseen and mysterious reality of coronavirus moving around the world as part of God's great plan for assuring that good triumphs over the God created evil ones coughing among us.

And, no sarcasm tag because I no longer know where to draw the line in the face of America's maga-mad cowed disease.

pastors.

99.2 % of all C-19 deaths* in America are people who would not get vaccinated. The GOP/Fox (one in the same)
would rather see people get sick and die rather then Joe Biden get a victory against this disease. "They" should get
crushed in 2022 and 2024 for this alone. Make 'em own it.

"Illinois summer camp didn't require masks indoors. Over 80 teens, staff got COVID-19"

"More than 80 teens and adult staff have tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a summer camp in central Illinois that did not require masks indoors or vaccination status. Of the 85 people infected, about 70% of the cases were in those not vaccinated, according to a press release from the Illinois Department of Health on Monday."

"The perceived risk to children may seem small, but even a mild case of COVID-19 can cause long-term health issues," IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said in the release. CNN reported that the Crossing Camp in Schuyler County was held in mid-June and left one unvaccinated teen needing hospitalization after contracting the virus."

"The IDPH said it was aware of only a handful of teens and staffers who received the vaccine, though everyone at the camp was eligible. Some of the attendees also attended a nearby conference that resulted in 11 additional cases, the IDPH reported. 'I do it for the kids':Thousands of summer camp counselors can't come to the US because of COVID-19 visa holdups."

"Infected youth who may not experience severe illness can still spread the virus to others, including those who are too young to be vaccinated or those who don’t build the strong expected immune response to the vaccine,” Ezike said. Crossing Camp said on its website that it was postponing the 4th and 5th grade camp until August due to a COVID-19 outbreak between June 13-17. "We were so looking forward to spending time with your campers this weekend, but we believe the best way to value and love our students, difference makers, and staff is to delay camp until a safer time," the site said."
