The Woodlands fires back at incorporation analysis by Howard Hughes Corp.

After the Howard Hughes Corp. issued several releases to debunk The Woodlands Township’s incorporation study, township officials have fired back at what they call misinformation regarding the financial model to become a city.

Township Assistant General Manager for Finance Monique Sharp said the misinformation boils down to one simple point; the Howard Hughes Corp., she noted, used old and outdated information to do their analysis, leaving the community scratching their collective heads.

For Sharp, the issue is not about incorporation but rather providing an accurate picture of the township’s financial health and maintaining its high credit rating of AA+, the highest for a special purpose district.

Sharp said one driving factor in the delay of updated numbers was the COVID-19 pandemic which put the incorporation on hold for several months. She pointed out the numbers used by the analysis done by consultants hired by Howard Hughes Corp. were from October 2019.
