Anyone else notice this? Firm believer in watching what animals do

Live in Central TX. I would guestimate about 4 weeks ago my dog stopped drinking tap water. Water he used to lap up.

He won't even go near it now. The only water he will drink is water in the drip pan below a plant on the patio. Water that's been filtered through soil.

1. I generally only give my pets

Bottled water but I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford that

3. will he drink bottled water?

could be that he has just found something that tastes better (for whatever reason) - and developed a preference. Although I have to admit I haven't heard of that one before. But if he won't drink bottled - that probably means this is just a quirk, and there isn't really anything wrong at the tap.

8. Uhmm, you might think about getting the water tested.

If an animal suddenly quits drinking water that it always has, there could possibly be something wrong with the water.

Animals are more sensitive to things like that going on and one should pay attention.

Personally, I wouldn't drink it until it was tested.

9. Central Texas where?

Pflugerville used to send out test results. Perhaps your water provider does too. Testing without knowing where to start might be complicated. Perhaps ask your vet about it, in case they've had (or receive, later) other reports of animals refusing to drink the water.

I'd worry about pesticide or fertilizer residue in the plant-filtered water, though if you recently used fish or kelp fertilizer your dog's drinking preferences might be explained.

My cats always prefer to drink from watering cans and I use tap water for the plants, but they're just weird
