New documentary Fruitcake Fraud tells story of millions swindled at Collin Street BakeryCORSICANA -- Remember when an employee at Collin Street Bakery the Texas shop known for its fruitcakes got caught having stolen nearly $17 million from the business in 2013? The movie version isnt here yet. (Pre-COVID, Will Ferrell was on board. Now, the films status is in question.) But while youre waiting, Discovery+ has rolled out a new documentary special about what happened in Corsicana called Fruitcake Fraud. It landed on the streaming service earlier this month, just in time for the mail-order cakes big season.
Its definitely the strangest case Ive ever worked, FBI agent Christine Edson says in the show, which comes out Wednesday. Over the course of 90 minutes, she and others look back on the nearly decade-long embezzlement scheme undertaken by Sandy Jenkins, the bakerys bookkeeper, to fuel an opulent lifestyle complete with pricey cars, high-end watches and jewelry, a Santa Fe home and luxury travel for him and his wife, Kay.

Mmmmmmmmm. They are delicious. I loved those Collins Bakery fruitcakes. I stored lots of buttons and thread in the empty cans.

It also sounds like your mom and her cousin had a nice holiday tradition--it's always a question mark when taking the first bite of the holiday fruitcake, particularly when unaware of the origin.
