City Council approves 'All Black Lives Matter' murals in South Dallas
DALLAS — The term that galvanized people across the globe to spark change and create a social movement against police brutality against Black people will soon be seen across parts of South Dallas. On Wednesday, the Dallas City Council approved the painting of “All Black Lives Matter” murals at various intersections in the majority Black neighborhood.
“I think it’s amazing to be a part of a body that will take a stance and say together, ‘Black Lives Matter,’” said Dallas City councilmen Adam Bazaldua, who represents District 7.
With the help from Abounding Prosperity, Inc., founded to address social and health disparities taking a toll on Black men and their families in Dallas County, private funding for the project was secured for a span of 10 years. According to officials, the initiative was started in June 2020.
“Very rarely do we see, in just being truthful and certainly my colleagues can agree with me, African-American organizations that are able to obtain private dollars of this nature over the course of 10 years for maintenance,” said councilmember Casey Thomas II. “Unfortunately, we don’t see that very often and hopefully this sets a precedent and encourages other philanthropists and others who have those funds to support things of this nature.”
