Ted Cruz mistakes 'Western Australia' for 'Washington State' in botched attack on 'power-drunk' Dems

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz apparently confused "Western Australia" with "Washington State" in an attempted attack on Democrats over COVID-19 restrictions on Wednesday night.

On Twitter, Cruz falsely suggested that "Washington State" had banned dancing at private parties on New Year's Eve.

"Blue-state Dems are power-drunk authoritarian kill-joys," Cruz wrote. "Washington State: NO DANCING ALLOWED!!! Any rational & free citizen: Piss off."

Cruz later deleted the tweet, but here's a screen shot:

5. Merely for those who might be interested...

It's actually worse. I only know this because I worked for the State of Washington years ago. It is officially the State of Washington, Washington State is a university and both are strict about not confusing the two. So is he accusing the university of overstepping it's jurisdictions, does he even know? (Obviously he doesn't nor has he the curiosity to look into things before reacting negatively.)

7. Carnival Cruz's Claim Easily Sealed

Didn’t someone post copies of the Western Australian regulations concerning the latest COVID restrictions? Didn’t copies of those restrictions have watermarks showing the seal of the Australian state of Western Australia? Because I believe I saw images of that on line.

And didn’t Carnival Cruz or someone in his office also have a chance to see copies of that document before posting their tweet? If so, a little detective work might have prevented them from appearing to be idiots.

Western Australia’s state seal has kangaroos on both flanks and a crown on top. The state of Washington’s state seal has George Washington on it. No crown, no kangaroos, no water bird.

Dumb, dumb, dumb, and typical of the carelessness Republicans have with the truth and governance.


But that’s to be expected from most Republicans these days.
