New president at Southwestern University

The Southwestern University Board of Trustees enthusiastically and unanimously elected Dr. Edward B. Burger as the University’s 15th president.

One of 100 people named to the Huffington Post’s list of “Game Changers” in 2010, Dr. Burger is the Francis Christopher Oakley Third Century Professor of Mathematics at Williams College. He will provide energetic, transparent, collaborative and visionary leadership that will unify our community, tell Southwestern’s story, and move the University forward. As one who embraces the University’s core purpose as a community whose values and actions encourage contributions toward the well-being of humanity, Dr. Burger is the perfect choice for Southwestern.

The future of Southwestern University will greatly benefit from Dr. Burger’s enthusiasm, creativity and innovation as we continue our storied traditions while creating new opportunities for transforming lives in the Southwestern community. Dr. Burger’s presidency will begin on July 1, 2013.

A committee comprised of trustees, faculty, students, alumni and other Southwestern stakeholders led the search for a new head administrator over the past four months, interviewing candidates and bringing two finalists to campus recently. In his visit to Georgetown, Mr. Burger said SU was on the cusp of becoming a nationally recognized liberal arts school and that better marketing was key to drawing more students and more revenue.
