Houston Mayor John Whitmire's Facebook comment about Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo's fianc landed him in hot water

I met Lina at a Harris County Democratic Lawyers event in 2018. I admire the fact that some so young was taking on the then current GOP County Judge and was pleased and surprised when Lina won. The former Harris County Judge, Ed Emmitt, had done a good job on a couple of hurricanes and I did not think that he was vulnerable.

The current Houston Mayor does not like Lina and has not worked with Lina on some issues. Lina is engaged and Mayor Whitmire was an ass in a face book post.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire’s Facebook comment about Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo's fiancé landed him in hot water with some critics on social media. Hidalgo shared moments of her bridal shower on the platform, resulting in a plethora of comments, including one from Whitmire.

“Wonderful,” wrote Whitmire. “He sure looks like a nerd.”

The comment, now deleted, referred to Hidalgo’s fiancé seen in the photos capturing the couple’s bridal shower tea party.

Social media users including journalist Scott Braddock shared screenshots of the post.

Despite Whitmire’s remarks, most of the commenters on the post congratulated the happy couple and offered well wishes to the soon-to-be-married duo.

Lina was re-elected in 2022 despite the efforts of Greg Abbott and the Texas GOP.

I ran into Whitmire and Mario Gallegos at the Brown Bar in Austin. Both were shitfaced, with Gallegos referring to Whitmire as "my bitch."
